“…there are not many artists like Alt Bloom in music today. …crafting music that contains…authenticity and human essence…”

(August 13th, 2021) Today, LA-based Alt-Pop artist Alt Bloom releases his new track “High Sometimes,” a song about the euphoria found in getting high. Whether going on an adventurous hike, falling in love, or getting some life-changing news – it’s open to interpretation, but everyone’s chasing that feeling. (Listen HERE).
Beginning the track is Alt Bloom’s signature sky-reaching vocals completely isolated except just a melodic beat flickering in the background. “When everything goes wrong / I get high sometimes,” he declares as he lists a series of setbacks, rejections, and obstacles in his path that have attempted to slow him down. Instead, he chooses to keep his head high. Making sure to take things on the chin rather than allowing life’s curveballs to wreck his strive, the bridge showcases Alt Bloom’s mentioning everything from teachers telling him to work on his issues to having a bottle thrown in his face — but it’s okay, he sings: it’s all good.
“High Sometimes” follows his recent single “Old Kick Drum” & its accompanying introspective visual which helped signal a new chapter and mark a new chapter of Alt Bloom — one that will not only further solidify Alt Bloom as a dynamic artist on the rise, but also a fresh era of music & content that will have listeners waiting with bated breath just to see what the singer-songwriter releases next.
Earlier this year, Alt Bloom released “Fly Away” and “I Believe,” his track in collaboration with National Geographic’s Planet Possible initiative, a new multi-platform, multi-year initiative aimed at helping consumers build on the scientific and environmental gains of the past year and empowering them to live more lightly on the planet.
Alt Bloom’s first single release of 2021 “Tired” received praise from the likes of Rolling Stone India, who featured the song in their “Global Artists Spotlight” and applauded the track for its “hooky guitar over groovy beats and a catchy chorus,” and The Aquarian praised Alt Bloom for his ability to transport listeners back to “the moments, emotions, and memories that were utilized to create something so breathtaking,” and highlighted the song for its “essence of late nineties indie rock found intertwined with slick R&B stylings and a wistful pop flair.”
Since the release of his debut EP Astronaut Complex and taking 2020 by storm, Alt Bloom has accumulated over 36 Million total streams, been featured in Billboard, American Songwriter, F L A U N T, among others, and released a hit collaboration with LA rapper gnash with “text talk touch.” Last year while in quarantine, Alt Bloom opted to find new ways to connect with his audience when the rest of the world was shutting down — whether it was putting out acoustic tracks and unreleased music on Soundcloud or hosting ‘Tribe Tuesdays’ on his Instagram and TikTok. When he wasn’t connecting with fans or spending time in nature, he was in the studio writing and recording music for this new chapter of his career.
“Quarantine was a mixed bag of feelings,” Ethan remarked. “I was bummed to not be able to tour my first EP, but I was happy to be home in Montana recording music in my childhood bedroom. It brought me back to my roots and gave me a chance to get even closer to my fans – now dubbed ‘the tribe’. We all lifted each other up during the most locked down of times.”

(July 15th, 2021) Today, LA-based Alt-Pop artist Alt Bloom releases the official video for his latest track “Old Kick Drum,” a song about embracing past mistakes and persevering even when it feels difficult. An ode to anyone who feels like they are being held back by their past, Alt Bloom passionately describes the uplifting feeling one has when they not only accept their faults & mistakes but learn to grow & live freely despite them.
Watch the official video for “Old Kick Drum” HERE.
The video depicts Ethan Thompson (aka Alt Bloom) reminiscing on memories of his life as he plays back old footage of himself as a child up through adulthood. Whether it’s aimlessly playing the piano in his adolescence or singing in a choir in his teens, the “Old Kick Drum” music video succinctly charts the lifelong journey Alt Bloom has had in regard to his music career. In a classic Alt Bloom fashion, he bridges the imagery of the video — cascading projections of his younger self on tape — with the lyrical inspiration of the song.
“‘Old Kick Drum’ has been a song I’ve had for seven years,” Ethan explains. “This video to me was about reflecting on where I’ve been, the good, the bad, the wtf was thats, and loving all forms/history of myself. Taking what I choose with me into the future and letting go of all the judgements and reasoning that have been roadblocks in my own head/life. A spring cleaning of my brain if you will.”
Listen to “Old Kick Drum” HERE.
Throughout the opening verse, Alt-Bloom’s soulful vocals are isolated atop a pulsing beat as the track builds and carries into the powerful, anthemic pre-chorus, in which Alt Bloom sings, “But, I know that I’m still good/Even though I’ve done some bad/Oh lord I need this now more than I ever have /I know that I’m still good/Even though I’ve done some bad/But now I’m swinging harder than I ever have.” The chorus is a force-of-nature; a dynamic & poetic representation of Alt Bloom’s ability to invoke positivity and enthusiasm through every new song and “Old Kick Drum,” an uplifting anthem for anyone and everyone, exemplifies this.
With the release of “Old Kick Drum” & its introspective visual, this marks a new chapter of Alt Bloom — one that will not only further solidify Alt Bloom as a dynamic artist on the rise, but also a fresh era of music & content that will have listeners waiting with bated breath just to see what the singer-songwriter releases next.

Released for Earth Day and written by Ethan Thompson (aka Alt Bloom), the atmospheric song serves as a rallying cry for everyone to take climate change and sustainability seriously.
With his deep connection to the planet and his affinity to the outdoors, this is a deeply personal song and mission for Alt Bloom. On the track he sings “I believe the impossible is possible together/We’re gonna see all the bigger and the brighter and the better,” a call to battle for everyone to come as one to tackle climate change together.
“Whether it be a music video, a photo or anything else, the goal for my project is to always incorporate nature,” explained Ethan. “I really wanted that to come through in this song.”
National Geographic’s core mission has been to help people better understand the world and their role in it and through Planet Possible, National Geographic aims to inspire consumers to take the collective action needed to help preserve our planet. With the release of “I Believe,” Alt Bloom will be contributing to National Geographic’s Earth Day inspired #ShareYourSpot social media campaign — encouraging users to share the places that bring them happiness, hope and optimism by submitting pictures using the #ShareYourSpot hashtag and join them in a global expression of love for the planet.
“I Believe” follows recently released single “Tired,” which Rolling Stone India featured on their “Global Artists Spotlight” and applauded the track for its “hooky guitar over groovy beats and a catchy chorus,” and The Aquarian praised Alt Bloom for his ability to transport listeners back to “the moments, emotions, and memories that were utilized to create something so breathtaking,” and highlighted the track for its “essence of late nineties indie rock found intertwined with slick R&B stylings and a wistful pop flair.”

(April 7, 2021) Today, LA-based Alt-Pop artist Alt Bloom has released his new music video for his latest single “Tired,” his first single of 2021. (Watch HERE). With his deep connection to the planet and his affinity to shoot in epic outdoor settings, Ethan Thompson (aka Alt Bloom) found the perfect spot to shoot the visual for “Tired” – on a frozen lake in the eastern Sierras. Singing “We are living longer, but are we living at all?” Ethan pulls inspiration from the frustrating and overwhelming feeling of being ‘sick and tired’ over a relationship that went sour.
Rolling Stone India, who recently featured Alt Bloom on their “Global Artists Spotlight,” applauded “Tired” for its “hooky guitar over groovy beats and a catchy chorus,” and The Aquarian praised Alt Bloom for his ability to transport listeners back to “the moments, emotions, and memories that were utilized to create something so breathtaking,” and highlighted the track for its “essence of late nineties indie rock found intertwined with slick R&B stylings and a wistful pop flair.”
“To me, the song is about being tired of the emotions that stem from a broken heart,” Ethan states about the inspiration behind “Tired.” “There’s a mosaic of memories in there from different heart breaks of mine.”
Since the release of his debut EP Astronaut Complex and taking 2020 by storm, Alt Bloom has accumulated over 26 Million total streams, been featured in Billboard, American Songwriter, F L A U N T, among others, and released a hit collaboration with LA rapper gnash with “text talk touch” (listen HERE). “Tired” is the latest from the LA-based Montana native and marks a new chapter for the singer/songwriter. Last year while in quarantine, Alt Bloom opted to find new ways to connect with his audience when the rest of the world was shutting down — whether it was putting out acoustic tracks and unreleased music on Soundcloud or hosting ‘Tribe Tuesdays’ on his Instagram and TikTok.

About Alt Bloom:
There is something intrinsically unique about multi-instrumentalist and lyricist Alt Bloom. With his seamless blend of alternative and timeless singer/songwriter pop, Alt Bloom has made himself known for crafting songs that encourage his listeners to escape; tracks that infuse dreamlike introspection paired with atmospheric melodies and, of course, Thompson’s signature tongue-in-cheek wordplay.
Hailing from Montana and now based in LA, Alt Bloom first became entranced with music when he created a handmade songbook for his piano teacher when he was just seven. Since then, he’s been crafting and honing both his sound and songwriting, finding inspiration in his own eclectic group of influences—from Tom Petty to Oasis to Red Hot Chili Peppers to Mac Miller. Alt Bloom’s ability to genre-bend and lean into a variety of genres has found him collaborating with top producers such as John Hill (Portugal The Man, Imagine Dragons, Cage The Elephant), The Monsters & Strangerz (Maroon 5, Rihanna, Dua Lipa, Nick Jonas), Oak Felder (Lizzo, John Legend, Alessia Cara), and hit rapper gnash, to name a few. This genre-defying has materialized through a slew of hit singles that has garnered support from the likes of Ones to Watch, Hype Machine, Billboard and more.
Alt Bloom’s debut EP Astronaut Complex, which was released earlier this year, highlights Thompson’s musical journey to date; a collection of songs that showcases his knack for confessional, relatable storytelling while also mastering his own distinct laidback sound.
With over 26 million streams to date and an acclaimed debut EP, Alt Bloom is gearing up for the next stage of his career — something the singer/songwriter likes to compare to mountain hiking; a never-ending journey of creating impactful music that makes both Thompson and his dedicated listeners feel as if they are on top of the world.

(September 14, 2020) Over the weekend, LA-based Alt-R&B artist Alt Bloom unveiled his new video for “text talk touch,” the collaborative single with rapper gnash – watch HERE.
The video premiered on MTV’s Friday LiveStream and Alt Bloom performed the song on VENN Arcade Live – watch HERE
Touching on the themes of the track while also highlighting the difficulty of finding a truthful connection while in quarantine, the visual shows Alt Bloom feverishly communicating with a girl by any means necessary — texting, video-chatting, and any other way of communication that isn’t physical. What Alt Bloom didn’t realize is the girl that he’s been glued to his phone for is also spending some virtual time with his collaborator, gnash.
Filmed separately in the middle of the global pandemic, Alt Bloom is the mastermind behind the concept for the playful-yet-seductive video, showcasing his creativity and knack for out-of-the-box ideas. During a year where much has been put on hold, Alt Bloom is an artist who has thrived artistically while in quarantine; at the beginning of June he released his debut EP – Astronaut Complex – via Big MTN Records (his imprint in partnership with Hollywood Records).
‘”text talk touch’ are the steps of a relationship, moving from texting, to talking, to finally meeting in person,” Alt Bloom (Ethan Thompson) explains on the meaning of the song. “My co-writer Sebastian Kole and I had just come off a songwriting retreat in Romania, but we hadn’t hit a song together yet. When we landed in LA, we booked a writing session together with The Orphanage. This song, “text talk touch” was written from top to bottom in about 10 minutes. It was a blast of a session, switching off writing sections of the song and then blasting it the rest of the night. Collaborating with Sebastian, The Orphanage and having gnash jump on the track was effortless and I can’t wait for everyone to hear.”
“We’re all living on our phone screens, especially during the pandemic & with all the world changing news going on,” gnash explains. “I learned from my sister recently that the generation younger than me pretty much only does online dating. So between those two things this song just makes sense for right now & always in the future, as scary as that might be!”

About Alt Bloom:
With its endlessly unpredictable fusion of alt-R&B and classic singer/songwriter pop, Alt Bloom offers the sonic equivalent of that purposeful escape: warmly textured and wonderfully unhurried, its songs unfold with a subtle hypnotic power, and ultimately invite the dreamy introspection that leads to much-needed self-discovery.
Alt Bloom represents the joyful outcome of a lifetime of soul-searching for Ethan Thompson, a multi-instrumentalist whose first musical creation was a handmade songbook assembled for his piano teacher when he was just seven. Collaborating with his close friend Brian Phillips (a producer/engineer known for his work with COIN, Walk the Moon, and Saint Motel), Thompson trusted his musical intuition with more boldness and imagination than ever before. Along with embracing the eclectic influence of the artists who’ve shaped his sensibilities over the years—everyone from Tom Petty to Stevie Wonder to Red Hot Chili Peppers to Mac Miller—Thompson reached a new level of open-heartedness in his lyrics. But while his storytelling reveals sometimes-painful truths about his dreams and frustrations, an utter lack of self- seriousness often finds Thompson packaging those confessions in tongue-in-cheek wordplay, and infusing a certain humor into each track.
Now based in L.A., Thompson hikes the local mountains at least once a week but continues to name the 10-hour-long, largely off-trail trek up Mount Siyeh in Montana, as his all- time most treasured journey—and a perfect metaphor for the instinct-driven creativity he brought to his new project. “For about a third of the hike you’re mostly guessing your way up the mountain,” Thompson notes. “You’re just scrambling and scrambling, and at some point it seems impossible that you’ll ever get to the top. And then once you finally make it there’s such a feeling of serenity, and it gives you a bird’s-eye view of all these things that usually weigh so heavily on your mind. Everything else falls away, and all that matters is that feeling of connection with this beautiful unknown that’s so much bigger than you.”

(August 28, 2020) Today, LA-based Alt-R&B artist Alt Bloom releases his new single in collaboration with gnash titled “text talk touch” – listen HERE. The single serves as a follow up to Alt Bloom’s summer debut EP Astronaut Complex, and finds that cool balance between classic R&B, hip-hop, and alternative pop.
Starting out as playfully detached and flirtatious, “text talk touch” journeys along melodies filled with acoustic guitar, funky synths, and lazy beats, eventually owning up to cautious optimism and hope in a blossoming romance.
The track is discreetly seductive. It describes the steps of every relationship, made more complicated by a global pandemic, with Alt bloom’s signature knack for creating music that listeners everywhere relate with. “It just takes time, yours mine, surely we can trust where this is going,” he sings. Whoever said talk is cheap certainly did not foresee this socially-distant summer season—luckily Alt bloom and gnash are here to remind us to make the most out of a time human touch is both priceless and risky, and all we have is text and talk.
(June 12, 2020) Today, LA-based Alt-R&B artist Alt Bloom unveils his debut EP – Astronaut Complex– out everywhere via Big MTN Records (his imprint in partnership with Hollywood Records). The collection of songs exudes an overarching theme of nostalgia for LA weather, honesty and summer romance. “In life we all build walls around us, afraid to take them down to truly get close to someone else,” explains Alt Bloom’s Ethan Thompson. “The songs of Astronaut Complex are tales of letting your guard down (from the seed of hope in ‘West Coast’ to the ending heartbreak of ‘Our Love’).”
“The Astronaut Helmet metaphorically represents the protection built that is shattered by art and music breaking through those protective self-built emotional walls,” Ethan explains of the artwork, designed by Dewey Saunders. Saunders, the artist who created the cover for Anderson Paak’s Malibu, worked together with Ethan to create this custom collage that represents his vision and incorporates personal images and items that hold special meaning.
The EP starts off with “West Coast,” Alt Bloom’s ode to Los Angeles. With its shimmering synth and mellowed-out groove, the track smoothly captures the tension between chasing your passion and surrendering to love. “It’s about living in the city and working and grinding, then having this person come into your life and trying to decide what to do,” says Ethan. “It’s me asking, ‘Do I jump into this, or do I fight off those feelings and just keep doing my thing?’”
Next is the “playful and charming” track “Damn Baby,” which was written top to bottom on a flight. “I still have a voice memo of me whispering the lyrics into my phone, trying not to tick off my fellow passengers. Hence the line “I’m writing songs ’bout you on the back of a plane,” Ethan remembers.“It ended up being one of my favorite tracks to play live.”
Described by Popular TV as the “perfect mix of R&B and pop,” “Get Back,” was inspired by post breakup feelings; “Myself and so many of my friends have gone through the one time, two time, three time, get back together in dating,” Ethan explains on the inspiration behind the song.
Nostalgic for a past relationship, “Our Love” has Ethan crooning, “the bed in the morning / that was our love / kiss in the shower / that was our love / laugh in your story / that was our love,” Ethan croons throughout the song.
The EP concludes with Alt Bloom’s newest single, “Sway,” a song that was originally written and recorded over two years ago. “‘Sway’ started off as a single word lyric and melody sung over guitar that developed into a song about wanting to be held and to hold onto somebody honestly, without the pressure of what ‘could be next,‘” Ethan recalls. “Wanting to be with that person in the moment. In the moment of; I’m human, you’re human and it’s okay to show love without it being anything more than that. Instead of being blinded by chasing other things, stopping for the instant and exploring that connection in front of you, no matter how fleeting or short-lived that may be.” The song was re-worked with collaborators Brian Phillips and Devin D’Amato to create what you hear now, “a hopeful moment of trust and love in a nonsensical world.”

The music video, which you can watch now on Youtubeand on American Songwriter, encompasses Alt Bloom’s vision of nature meets city. “The concept of the video was to capture the heart of the song and Alt Bloom,” explains Thompson. “Fun and intimate.”
Nostalgia for LA weather and summer romance is a theme Alt Bloom carries throughout all of his 2020 releases, including the Billboardpenned “sun-kissed… easygoing” single “West Coast,” and his most recent track “Damn Baby,” which Neon Musicdescribes as “slick and refreshing.” Last year, his euphoric debut track, “Call It Home,” was described as “an alt-pop masterpiece” by Obsessxns, followed by the warped beats of “Potential,” the dreamy textures of “October Eyes,” and the alt-pop anthem “Stay.”
Alt Bloom’s momentum continues well into 2020 with a five-song EP coming in June.

LA-based Alt-R&B artist Alt Bloom released his new track “Damn Baby” today via Big MTN Records. The track encapsulates singer/songwriter Ethan Thompson’s nostalgia for LA weather and summer romance, much like his first single of 2020, “West Coast.”
The idea “Damn Baby” came about while Alt Bloom was on a flight. “It was written top to bottom on a plane – I still have a voice memo of me whispering the lyrics into my phone, trying not to tick off my fellow passengers. Hence the line “I’m writing songs ’bout you on the back of a plane. It ended up being one of my favorite tracks to play live”
Listen to “Damn Baby” everywhere HERE.
“Damn Baby” is Alt Bloom’s second track release of this year, and just the latest in a series of notable tracks released through 2019. He started the year strong with the fan-favorite “West Coast,” which Billboard described as a “sun-kissed… easygoing” single. Last year, his euphoric debut track, “Call It Home,” was described as “an alt-pop masterpiece” by Obsessxns, followed by the warped beats of “Potential,” the dreamy textures of “October Eyes,” and the alt-pop anthem “Stay,” Alt Bloom’s momentum continues well into 2020 with a five-song EP slated for the top of the year followed by a string of new music to be released throughout the spring and summer.

LA-based Alt-R&B artist Alt Bloom released new track and video for “Stay” today via Big MTN Records. The video, directed by Skyler Bocciolatt, sees Alt Bloom alone in a room on a rare stormy night in L.A., wistfully pleading with his lover to leave the outside world behind for one night and stay with him. Watch/stream/download it HERE.
“Stay” spins a slow-burning romance from one of the rarest of phenomena: a rainy day in Los Angeles. “Because rainy days almost never happen here, I wanted to write a song where I’m asking someone to just stay inside and experience that with me,” explains singer/songwriter Ethan Thompson, who wrote much of the tender-hearted track on an upright piano. “It’s asking them to ignore whatever they need to do that day—just shut out the rest of the world so we can enjoy this special thing together.”
Made over the course of a marathon session with producer/engineer Brian Phillips, “Stay” unfolds in soft-toned verses that perfectly channel the feeling of hiding away, with Phillips’s warm guitar work magnifying that dreamy mood. But at the chorus, the song takes on a greater intensity, shifting into a bold statement of infatuation.
“A lot of my songs right now are coming from that turning point of going from liking someone to loving them,” says Thompson. “At the beginning of ‘Stay,’ it’s a little tentative, where I’m still on the line between like and love—but then by the end, I’m just jumping right in and taking everything to a whole new place.”
“Stay” is the latest in a series of notable tracks released from Alt Bloom this year. With the euphoric debut track, “Call It Home,” described as “an alt-pop masterpiece” by Obsessxns, followed by the warped beats of “Potential,” and the dreamy textures of “October Eyes,” Alt Bloom’s momentum continues well into 2020 with a five-song EP slated for the top of the year followed by a string of new music to be released throughout the spring and summer.

(January 17, 2020) LA-based Alt-R&B artist Alt Bloom released new track and video for “West Coast” today via Big MTN Records. The video, premiered via Billboard, follows Alt Bloom’s Ethan Thompson and his longboard through quintessential Los Angeles neighborhoods, capturing the essence of the song. With its shimmering synth and mellowed-out groove, the track smoothly captures the tension between chasing your passion and surrendering to love. “It’s about living in the city and working and grinding, then having this person come into your life and trying to decide what to do,” says Thompson. “It’s me asking, ‘Do I jump into this, or do I fight off those feelings and just keep doing my thing?’”
Made with two of his roommates—multi-instrumentalist/producer Devin D’Amato and producer/engineer Brian Phillips (Thompson’s frequent collaborator)—“West Coast” came to life through several bursts of pure spontaneity. “I got home one day and Devin was working on a track and blasting it in his room, so I popped my head in and asked if I could write over it,” Thompson recalls. “I was just about to leave for Coachella, but I went and sat on my bed wrote almost the entire song, recorded it on a voice memo and then took off.”
With “West Coast” later completed with Phillips in their studio, Thompson is thrilled about the possibilities in further cultivating a collaboration with his roommates. “We’ve kind of turned our place into our own little compound, and we’re trying to produce in-house as much as possible,” he says. “I think that’s how a lot of great things are made: when people commit to each other and commit to the art, and everybody dedicates themselves to growing it together.”
“West Coast” is Alt Bloom’s first single of this year, and just the latest in a series of notable tracks released through 2019. With the euphoric debut track, “Call It Home,” described as “an alt-pop masterpiece” by Obsessxns, followed by the warped beats of “Potential,” the dreamy textures of “October Eyes,” and the alt-pop anthem “Stay,” Alt Bloom’s momentum continues well into 2020 with a five-song EP slated for the top of the year followed by a string of new music to be released throughout the spring and summer.
