India Shawn is unfiltered, fearless, and always evolving. The Los Angeles-born singer-songwriter has long been admired for her raw storytelling, effortlessly making listeners feel like they’re catching up with an old friend. Now, as she steps into a new chapter, she’s bringing a fresh sonic evolution to 2026—one that’s deeply authentic yet undeniably new.
This June, India Shawn returns with her genre-bending new single, “Kill Switch.” The song highlights India’s mesmerizing voice and weaves the story of reclaiming one’s power. “Kill Switch” germinated the morning of the recording session with India waking of with the phrase “anybody else but you.” When India arrived at the studio, Livvy Bennett and Michael Hunter (of indie rock band Mamalarky) were jamming on ideas that would shape the song, and that line clicked perfectly into place over the chords. D’Mile brought the production to life, and Varren Wade helped flesh out the melody and lyrics. Said India, “’Kill Switch’” is an unexpected shift, as I move away from the familiar shadows of unreturned love and reclaim the power to decide my own fate. It’s a song about recognizing the potential danger of crossing the line from friends to lovers, and trying to safeguard what’s real before it becomes too messy; “this could turn from a good thing to hate, keep it shallow for our own sake.”
India Shawn recently released “There Must Be A God”—the soul-stirring anthem that served as the end-credit song for Andscape’s Hulu film “She Taught Love” —India continues to solidify her space as a voice that moves between the celestial and the familiar, carrying echoes of something eternal yet intimately known. The official music video debuted on Vevo on December 6, 2024, followed by a mesmerizing live performance that reaffirmed her ability to captivate audiences with her ethereal and emotive style.
Her critically acclaimed album Before We Go (Deeper) cemented her as a powerhouse in alternative R&B, earning praise from Billboard, NPR, UPROXX, and Noisey. Having penned hits for Chris Brown, Monica, and Keri Hilson, and performed alongside Kanye West’s Sunday Service and Anderson .Paak & The Free Nationals, India has long been an artist’s artist—respected, studied, and celebrated by those in the know.
Now, with a revitalized creative spirit and a clear vision, India is ready to take center stage once again. Her next phase is not just about keeping up with the moment—it’s about defining it. With new music, a refined artistic direction, and an undeniable presence, she continues to push the boundaries of alternative R&B, proving that evolution is the heartbeat of true artistry.
This time, the world is listening.

Los Angeles, CA (May 1, 2026) — After four years of evolution, introspection, and self-discovery, R&B songstress India Shawn returns with her long-awaited EP, Subject To Change, out now via VANTA Music. A sonically lush and deeply personal body of work, the six-track project explores the uncertainty that surrounds life’s major transitions. It’s executive produced by Grammy® and Oscar® winner D’Mile, with contributions from Lucky Daye (“Cotton Candy Blvd”).
Speaking about the new EP, India Shawn shares: “Falling in and out of feelings. Nothing is fixed, everything is in flux. My new EP, ‘Subject To Change,’ moves through sonic worlds from bright, airy ‘Marmalade’ to the dark, melancholic ‘Multiplicity.’ Nothing ever really stays the same, especially matters of the heart, and I wanted the music to move as fluidly as we do.”
Coinciding with the EP release, India unveils the official video for “Marmalade” – a flirtatious, feel-good cut that harkens back to the ‘70’s-inspired sound of her previous work. The accompanying visual mirrors the song’s nostalgia, too. It tells the story of someone longing for the night not to end, surrounded by bodies in motion, all sweating, connecting, and losing themselves on the dance floor. Watch HERE.
That same ethos carries into the core of Subject To Change, where everything moves a little slower and every moment feels meant to be savored. With lyrics that feel like a conversation and production that draws you in, the rest of the EP unfolds like a journal entry. From the diary-like “Til’ Infinity” to the Billboard-approved “Rain On Me,” and the fearless vulnerability of “Multiplicity,” India’s latest release resonates with anyone who understands that change is constant. It also crystallizes the retro-futurist sound she’s honed over the last decade, set against the backdrop of a world in flux.
Subject To Change builds on the narrative depth introduced with 2021’s acclaimed album, BEFORE WE GO, and the equally attuned extended version, BEFORE WE GO (DEEPER). Over the years, India has continued to turn heads and expand her audience, steadily evolving into one of this generation’s brightest R&B stars. From touring with Anderson .Paak and the Free Nationals to her celebrated NPR Tiny Desk performance, she has forged a path defined by unfiltered honesty and sophisticated sonics.

ABOUT INDIA SHAWN
India Shawn is on the precipice of a major breakthrough. The Los Angeles-based singer-songwriter first turned heads with Origin — a project driven by pure intention. The EP quietly made waves and caught the attention of those who recognized something undeniable in her voice. From there, she continued fortifying her catalog with 2015’s joint effort featuring James Fauntleroy, Outer Limits. In the intervening years, India lent her voice as background support for some of the most respected names in music, including Anderson .Paak, Daniel Caesar, Willow Smith, and The Internet. But even when she stood behind others, she never lost sight of who she was becoming. After aligning with Epic Records in 2021, India released her critically acclaimed LP BEFORE WE GO (DEEPER). When that chapter closed, it didn’t mark an end, but a new direction. Instead of going quiet, India re-emerged with a new deal at VANTA Music – the brainchild of Grammy® and Oscar®-winning producer D’Mile, and his partner, Grammy®-winning mix engineer John Kercy – and immediately hit the ground running, consummating her rise with a slew of singles: “There Must Be a God (From ‘She Taught Love’), “Kill Switch,” and “Cotton Candy Blvd” featuring Lucky Daye. Now, India stands at the edge of something transformative. As everything begins to fall into place, one thing is clear: India’s path forward holds an essence that is, and always will be, subject to change.

The fan favorite steps fully into 2026 with a heartfelt earworm that puts her vulnerability front and center. Produced by Grammy® and Oscar®-winning R&B savant D’Mile, “Rain On Me” blends strummed acoustic guitar with a driving bassline that murmurs beneath India’s delicate croon. The track reflects a quiet craving for the effortless warmth of being loved (“Just keep loving me with a purpose/Spoil me ‘cause you know I’m worth it”). It immediately sets a late-night, atmospheric mood, offering a glimpse into the emotional terrain of India’s forthcoming EP.
“Rain On Me” is the lead single from SUBJECT TO CHANGE, a cohesive, concept record that feels extremely personal yet universally resonant. The EP crystallizes the sound India has been honing across her prolific discography over the last decade. It builds on the narrative depth introduced with 2021’s acclaimed album, BEFORE WE GO, and the equally attuned extended version, BEFORE WE GO (DEEPER). As anticipation builds for what’s next, India has steadily evolved into one of alternative R&B’s most refined voices.

She spent years as a background singer working with artists like Anderson .Paak, Daniel Caesar, Willow Smith, and The Internet before launching a successful solo career. But before the music, there was church. She was the daughter of a worship leader who felt more at home on a church stage than anywhere else.
India found her voice early, delivering performances with a natural confidence at neighborhood gatherings and talent shows that whispered of future greatness.
Her path into the music industry began almost like fate. Singing “Fallen” (by Mya) under her breath while leaving a Best Buy in Atlanta, she was overheard and invited to a recording studio for the very first time. Hearing herself on a microphone changed everything. What followed was a grind defined by growth: demoing records, forming a writing collective (called Full Circle), and eventually landing a publishing deal that pulled her back home to Los Angeles.
Surrounded by industry greats, India sharpened her pen and her ear, but that experience came with hard lessons. Soon enough, though, she quickly realized that writing for others sometimes felt like a disconnect from her own truth, and over time, she chose herself.
In 2012, she stepped away from chasing placements, returning to Atlanta to finish her degree in sociology at Georgia State University. In doing so, she was able to reconnect with her purpose. That reset gave birth to her first solo release, Origin, a project driven by pure intention. The EP quietly made waves and caught the attention of those who recognized something undeniable in her voice. As a result, community became her foundation, and collaboration her fuel.
She continued fortifying her catalog with 2015’s joint effort featuring James Fauntleroy, Outer Limits. But the journey was far from linear. After moving back to Los Angeles in 2018, India rebuilt from the ground up. She was delivering food, singing in wedding bands, and lending her voice as background support for some of the most respected names in music. But even when she stood behind others, she never lost sight of who she was becoming.
India’s resilience carried her into a major-label deal with Epic Records, a milestone met with both opportunity and challenge as the world slowed during the pandemic. Even then, she adapted. After aligning with the label, in 2021, India released her critically acclaimed LP BEFORE WE GO (DEEPER). Then came an era without Epic.
Grounded in mindfulness, connected to community, and more aligned than ever, she’s stepping fully into her identity. Not just as a vocalist or songwriter, but as an artist in every sense. As everything begins to fall into place, one thing is clear: India’s path forward holds an essence that is, and always will be, subject to change.

“India Shawn, Lucky Daye and D’Mile are a lethal combination.”

“Shawn’s voice soars.”
– Wonderland
One of music’s most dynamic and powerful voices, India Shawn released her new single and video for “Gone” today. The song, written by India Shawn, D’Mile, Bianca “Blush” Atterbery and Jean Baptiste Kouame, continues Shawn’s self-empowering and relatable style of penning memorable and instantly catchy storytelling. The production (produced by Oscar® and Grammy® winner D’Mile and engineered by D’Mile and Grammy® winner John Kercy) is loaded with unexpected gems – surf guitars, whistling, clapping, and culminates with a piano solo that embodies a feeling of freedom when you regain your sense of self.
The video clip was directed by David Maxwell, and gives a neo-Western cinematic scope to the Soul/Pop anthem, and highlights Shawn’s liberating and empowering vocals. India’s unique style, impossibly earthy and glam at the same time, add to the visual drama.
Said India Shawn about “Gone,” “’Gone’ isn’t just about someone leaving, it’s about what I gain in their absence. Peace. Clarity. Strength. This song is about being more than okay alone—it’s about finally feeling powerful in it. ‘Gone’ is about releasing what doesn’t serve you—not in bitterness, but in clarity. It’s me learning that being alone isn’t lonely when you’re finally honest about what you deserve. I wrote it from that moment where you stop fighting to fix something that keeps breaking you, and instead, you choose yourself. Sonically, I wanted to break out of my own box with this song. D’Mile and I kept pushing until it felt bigger than just a pretty track—it had to feel like an anthem for finally walking away and not looking back.”
India Shawn is currently on tour with Free Nationals and Giveon.

True to India’s honest and unfeigned lyrics, “Cotton Candy Blvd.” speaks from a real and relatable place. There’s a warm embrace to the song, like a late summer drive you never want to end.
Said India Shawn of the song, “’Cotton Candy Blvd.’ is a summer night, a slow drive, and a long-awaited yes. I’ve been waiting just as long as the fans for this dream collab, and it delivers. There’s something magical about the way Lucky and I blended on the record. The song is sweet, but it’s got depth – it’s the tension before the kiss, the invitation and the promise. When I sing ‘I’m more than ready to love,’ I mean it.”
“Cotton Candy Blvd.” was written by India Shawn, Yonatan “Chiiild” Ayal, Alexander Duncan IV, Colin Munroe, D’Mile, Rudolph > Catwell II and Lucky Daye, produced by D’Mile and Yonatan “Chiiild” Ayal, and engineered by D’Mile and John Kercy.
